DETROIT, August 8, 2018 – The 15th annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic raised just over $470,000 net, bringing the total financial contribution to nearly $6.5M net since 2004. Monies go directly to three charities including Detroit PAL, The Children's Center and Variety the Children’s Charity of Detroit. Monies raised go to support programs that impact 40,000 youth.

The Paul W. Smith Golf Classic, held at the historic Detroit Golf Club, featured a day of golf, camaraderie and dining and was attended by 270 corporate and community representatives. Event proceeds were raised from sponsorships and individual contributions.

"The goal of the tournament since the beginning has always been the check we write and the kids who benefit from it," Paul W. Smith, said. "Each year we are overwhelmed by the commitment and generosity of the corporate community and the many caring individuals who have helped us raise nearly $6.5M in net proceeds."

This year the tournament proceeds went to Detroit PAL as well as two additional charities serving children with vital services, The Children's Center and Variety the Children’s Charity of Detroit. "We saw the impact we were making on the number of children Detroit PAL reached and knew we could extend that reach," added Smith.

The Paul W. Smith Golf Classic is considered one of the region's most productive charity golf outings and is made possible through the support of sponsors. The Title Sponsor each year is News/Talk 760 WJR and Ford Motor Company is Tournament Sponsor. Joining them as Presenting Sponsors were Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE Energy Foundation, General Motors Corporation and Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
