DETROIT, Mich., May 11, 2010 – The seventh annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic, benefiting Think Detroit PAL returns to the Detroit Golf Club on August 16, 2010. The tournament has raised more than $2 million in net funds to support Think Detroit PAL’s youth sports, leadership and academic programs, since the inaugural event in 2004.
The Paul W. Smith Golf Classic is the largest annual fundraiser benefiting Think Detroit PAL. Over the past six years, funds raised by the tournament have underwritten the cost of nearly 11,000 boys and girls who participate in Think Detroit PAL’s diverse programs. In particular, Think Detroit PAL has been able to reinstate its golf program for the 2010 season because of the event’s success. Approximately 50 children will participate in Think Detroit PAL’s golf program this summer.
“Many of our programs and our participants have benefitted from the tremendous support of the Paul W. Smith Golf Classic,” said Tim Richey, interim chief operating officer of Think Detroit PAL. “Paul W. Smith, along with all of the tournament sponsors, have been fantastic partners in our mission to make Detroit a great place to be a kid and raise a family.”
Paul W. Smith is the event chairperson and News/Talk 760 WJR is the title sponsor. Ford Motor Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Compuware Corporation and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc., return as long-time presenting sponsors. PNC Financial Services joins as a first time presenting sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities and foursome playing spots are available now.

The tournament is a best-ball scramble format and features contests such as Longest Drive, Longest Putt, Closest-to-the-Pin and Hole-in-One.
